Catherine M. Cannon, Esq.
Education
Western State College of Law, San Diego, California
Juris Doctor, 19889
Experience
Catherine M. Cannon has over 35 years of civil litigation experience in Southern California, consisting almost entirely of insurance defense experience.
The first five years of her career were spent with an insurance defense firm, Viviano and Bradley, which familiarized her with insurance coverage issues and construction defect defense.
In 1993 she decided to go “in-house” and work for an insurance carrier which led to working for Liberty Mutual Insurance Group for over 26 years. During those years, most of her work involved the defense of contractors and subcontractors involved in construction defect litigation. That defense work consisted of preparation of motions, discovery, and trial related materials. In 2011 Ms. Cannon was named National Construction Defect Coordinator for Liberty Mutual Insurance Group. Her duties in that job required her to review every construction defect case in the United States assigned from the claims department to the in-house legal department of Liberty Mutual. While in this position, she continued to handle construction defect cases in the Southern California area. This position enabled Ms. Cannon to work closely with the claims department to make certain that attorneys in the legal department responded to issues raised by claims such as issues with timely reporting, providing necessary documentation and information to claims, etc. She remained in that position until her retirement from Liberty Mutual in December 2021. That retirement was the result of an “early retirement offer” from Liberty Mutual, an offer made to many of its most experienced attorneys.
Upon realizing that she missed her work as an insurance defense attorney, Ms. Cannon sought a position with Thomas Lucas where she has worked since February 2023.
